Alternative Ways to watch your favorite TV Shows

Those of us who do not have enough money for a beefy and expensive PVR like the TiVo or don’t have enough free time to stay glued in front of the TV all day just to catch all our favorite shows, the alternative is to just download TV shows from various sources on the internet.

All you need to download TV shows from the internet is a reasonably fast internet connection, a working, relatively powerful computer, and all the hard disk storage space you can spare (word to the wise: high quality TV shows will take a LOT of space, so if you only have a gig or so of free space, you may want to wait until you get a hard disk upgrade before you get serious on downloading TV shows).

Once you’re sure that you have everything you need in terms of hardware, you’re first step is with torrent trackers. Finding one is as easy as typing “Torrent” on a search engine field. Torrent sites are currently the most popular sources for uploaded TV shows although you need to check which ones are still active. Unfortunately, the shelflife of torrents are usually short since people tend to log off once they’ve finished their own download, leaving the rest with unfinished files. And there’s the whole issue with legalities.

If you don’t want to thread the fine line between piracy and fair use, your next best option is with paid sites that offer downloadable episodes for a nominal fee. The most popular right now is iTunes, which is also the one with the largest selections available.
